Come, Be RENEWED ♥ 12:25 AM
THE EFFECTS OF RENEWAL
Titus 3:5-6(NIV) identifies the source of renewal as the Holy Spirit. "He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior." The Greek form of the word poured is the same word used for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit described by Joel, and which had its inauguration on the day of Pentecost(Acts 2:17, 33). Acts 2:17 says,"In the last days, God says, i will pour out my Spirit on all people."
Renewal is not about hype. It is the Holy Spirit doing an inward work within the believer. Jesus, in chapters 14 to 16 of John's Gospel, outlines the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit points out towards the Truth, which is Jesus Himself. He reveals to us and teaches us about the Word of God, and about things to come. He is a Spirit of prophecy. He convicts us of sin in our lives.
The outward result of true renewal is a greater desire for the things of God. There is a hunger for the Word of God, an urgency to pray and a passion for souls. There is a change in behavior and attitude, to be more like Jesus in exhibiting the fruit of the Holy Spirit. There is a deeper conviction of our sinful state and a humbling call to repentance. There is a clarity found in the Word of God which safeguards us against every wind of doctrine.
